Day 9 - Monday 26 September

Still running behind with this, there just never seems to be time at the end of the day.
Anyway, today we travelled from Cody to Yellowstone National Park, and here are a few quick pictures..

A fairly early start, and after breakfast we jumped in the car and were off....

More empty roads, but this time the scenery was a bit more interesting

o

but we still saw some odd sights....

Eventually we made it, or at least the East entrance.

Rather cleverly our hotel was on the West side of the park, so we took the Northern loop to get there.
The traffic jams were terrible....

We did see some sights on the way though.....

Our 1st Geothermal feature ... "Mud Volcano"
Yellowstone Falls

We drove through lots of pine trees (ridge pole pines), but a huge amount were dead, like the following picture. We later learnt this was because of the pine beetle. Tenacious little bugger..

As the evening light started to fade we drove through Mammoth Hot Springs, famous for its ... hot spring steps..

Finally, we caught this buffalo having a dust bath a few miles before we reached the hotel for tonight.
